EDELWEISS 9.8MM CURVE

EDELWEISS 9.8MM CURVE

The Edelweiss Curve 9.8mm is a high-performing and dependable rope. As an optimal single-rope for sport and trad climbing, the Curve’s performance characteristics have been optimized for fast progression to a higher level of climbing. The combination of a 9.8mm diameter, HD cover, and low impact force gives the Curve a desirable balance of handling, safety, and durability. Available in standard, with UNICORE process, an ARC option - a bipattern weave that easily distinguishes the two halves of the rope, and a UNICORE SUPEREVERDRY version that exceeds the stringent UIAA Water Repellent standard.

DESIGNATIONS

PERFORM 3

All Edelweiss ropes with the Perform 3 label have been engineered with a perfect balance of durability, handling, and performance. Perform 3 is Edelweiss' premium combination of chracteristics for top-level climbing ropes, providing optimal safety and enhanced performance.

Perform 3 ropes possess three main chracteristics that benefit climbers in both realms of safety and performance:

1) Improved Flexibility: Perform 3 ropes are supple, providing a much better handing experience when tying knots and clipping protection. The improved handling characteristics come from new construction techniques such as the HD Cover.

2) Improved Energy Absorption: Perform 3 ropes have a much lower impact force, providing the lead climber with increased safety. Low impact forces improve the holding power of the protection, reduce the impact of a fall on the climber, and provide a more enjoyable climbing experience for both the climber and belayer. Improved treatments to the core yarns in Perform 3 ropes have lowered the impact force to provide a more safe and comfortable rope.

3) Improved Strength to Weight Ratio: Perform 3 ropes weigh less and still retain the same durability and strength of other Edelweiss ropes. The improvements in construction and treatments have resulted in lighter ropes with better performance characteristics. Smaller diameters are possible with better handling, lower impact forces, and improved performance in UIAA tests.

PROCESSES

UNICORE

An astonishing process, bonding the sheath and core without affecting the rope’s suppleness. If the sheath is cut or torn, the core and sheath remain bonded together. With a standard rope, if the sheath is cut by abrasion over an edge, the sheath can slide and gather along the rope length, creating a potentially dangerous situation. With the UNICORE process, the sheath remains in place and the rope intact and fully functional.

HD COVER

Edelweiss ropes with HD Cover are manufactured using a high definition braiding technology where each cover yarn is individually woven for optimal performance. With this style of braiding the rope's cover, the thickness of the sheath remains the same while the rope's surface is much smoother than with standard braiding methods. HD Cover makes belaying more fluid and allows the rope to pass smoothly through the protection. Other benefits are higher abrasion resistance and an extended lifespan for the rope.

TREATMENTS

SUPEREVERDRY

Edelweiss was the first climbing rope manufacturer to apply a Supereverdry treatment to all fibers in the core and sheath. A Supereverdry treated rope barely absorbs any water in wet conditions, dries quicker, and doesn't stiffen up in freezing temperatures. Comparative tests demonstrate the superiority of this treatment over competing methods of other manufacturers with respect to durability of the treatment as well as efficiency.

Supereverdry treated ropes exceed the new UIAA WATER REPELLENT standard.

UIAA WATER REPELLENT

To succeed in this testing performed in a certified laboratory, the rope must absorb less than 5% of its weight after exposure to a severe water flow for 15 minutes. The results obtained by the Supereverdry treated ropes are 0.8 to 1.4% (average 1.1%) compared to the 40-50% absorbed by the non-treated ropes.

OPTIONS

MID ROPE INDICATOR

Middle marking on the rope for easy checking and improved safety.

ARC - BI PATTERN

ARC (Advanced Rope Control) is the concept developed by Edelweiss where the sheath weave-pattern changes at the rope's midpoint. A rope with the ARC option is more convenient and safer, especially when top roping and rappelling because the midsection of the rope is quickly identifiable.
